CryptX are a new ‘escape room’ enterprise, located near to Cambridge (UK). Opened in 2017, the owners converted a warehouse on a non-descript industrial estate into a specialist venue, featuring a multi-purpose escape room theatre. CAMBITION were approached to assist with a brand creation strategy, following through to include marketing materials and online presence. Furthermore, CAMBITION are the email and website hosting supplier to CryptX, ensuring that their online presence is maintained at all times.

What were the branding challenges?

The burgeoning ‘escape room experience’ industry is a competitive one, where difference businesses compete to gain the interest of a broad (and often critical) audience. It was therefore vital that the correct brand and styling were established, as to attract clientele and ‘stand out from the crowd’.

Research was undertaken to identify the particular demographical audiences that the future business of CryptX would target, with respect to the themes of their planned escape rooms. Three initial branding proposals were created to gain client and ‘general’ feedback from the target audiences, with one proposal being refined to completion. CAMBITION worked hard to establish a brand that would last beyond the first 5 years of the business launching, become an iconic and lasting brand within the regional ‘escape room’ industry.

What impact did this have?

CAMBITION developed an SEO compliant and mobile responsive website (based on WordPress with Content Management System compatibility and featuring an online booking portal) to launch simultaneously with the re-opening of the business. Furthermore, CAMBITION oversaw the design and print of various paper-based marketing materials, as to assist with the promotion of CryptX.

In the 18 months since the relaunch of the business, CryptX have become known as one of the most enjoyable and challenging ‘escape rooms’ in the Cambridge region. The brand is now instantly recognisable and the website is performing well in a competitive online marketplace. CAMBITION continue to be the supplier to CryptX as they develop their business into the future.
